NASCAR driver Jeb Burton, in partnership with Puryear Tank Lines, will honor the “workhorse of Army aviation” H-60 Blackhawk with a special paint scheme mimicking the design of the iconic aircraft in this weekend’s NASCAR Xfinity Series race at the Pocono Raceway.
The tribute scheme, featured on the Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport car, also highlights a unique partnership with The Fort Indiantown Gap Army National Guard training installation and The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation (WBWF). The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation has been the lead partner to the Army National Guard for the Readiness and Environmental Protection Integration (REPI) program at Ft. Indiantown Gap for 10 years.
Former Puryear Tanklines driver Sergeant Jeremy F. Hardison will be remembered on the name rail of the No. 27 Chevrolet. Jeremy’s passion for engineering led him to enlist in the National Guard in May 2006 to fulfill his dreams of going to college and designing aircraft. He then deployed to Iraq from 2008 to 2009.
In 2011, Jeremy decided to join Puryear Tank Lines after getting referred by his dad, who has been a Puryear driver for over 20 years. In 2012, Jeremy’s unit was called to active duty in Afghanistan for Operation Enduring Freedom. Tragically, on October 1, 2012, Jeremy and two other soldiers were killed when an insurgent detonated a suicide vest while they were on foot patrol in Khost, Afghanistan.
Growing up as the son of NASCAR legend, Ward Burton, it was only natural that going fast was all Jeb Burton had ever known. In 2008, Burton began his professional racing career at the age of 16 in what was known as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series at South Boston Speedway. Close to his hometown of Halifax, Virginia, Burton continued to move up in competition at South Boston Speedway to drive in the Late Model Series, where he earned Rookie of the Year honors.
2012 marked the year that Burton moved into one of NASCAR’s premier series, as he made his first start in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. The following year, he competed in his first full season and earned his first win at Texas Motor Speedway, as well as seven pole awards, five top-five and 11 top-10 finishes.
Burton recorded only two starts in the NASCAR Xfinity Series (NXS) before making his NASCAR Cup Series (NCS) debut in 2015 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. He went on to make 33 NCS starts and 109 NXS starts between 2013 and 2022, with his first Xfinity win coming in the spring race at Talladega in 2021. Jeb enjoyed the winner circle again at Talladega in 2023.
2024 will mark Burton’s fourth full season in the NXS, as he competes for a championship with Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport.
Away from the race track, Burton enjoys hunting, fishing and the outdoors. His love for conservation and land management led to the creation of “Crossroads with the Burtons”, an outdoor series featured on the Sportsman Channel highlighting the life of the outdoorsman and NASCAR driver.
Jeb also serves as a board member for his father’s Foundation.
In a demonstration of unwavering support for the military community, Puryear Tank Lines, a long-standing partner of NASCAR and committed supporter of the men and women in the U.S. military, proudly sponsors Jeb Burton. Since its establishment in 1959, Puryear has fostered relationships with veteran-owned and operated businesses, exemplifying their dedication to those who have served.
“Over the years, we’ve had numerous people work for us who were also in active reserve units,” said Ron Patterson, Director of Safety & Risk Management at Puryear Tank Lines.
Jeb is excited to get behind the wheel on what is sure to be a special weekend. “I’m so proud to honor Sgt. Hardison as well as the work done by the Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation. The sacrifices that the men and women make to defend our country is something that I am forever grateful for.”
By combining their forces, Jeb Burton, Puryear Tank Lines, The Ward Burton Wildlife Foundation (WBWF), and Jordan Anderson Racing Bommarito Autosport aim to create a lasting tribute to the H-60 Blackhawk and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. This collaboration embodies the spirit of honor, dedication, and perseverance that resonates with fans, sponsors, and the racing community at large.
