The Shop Foreman / Head Mechanic plays a vital leadership role in our maintenance department, ensuring the smooth operation of day-to-day repair and maintenance activities for tractor-trailer equipment. This position acts as a liaison between the fleet manager, operations, and technicians, by overseeing diagnostics, repairs, and the efficient operation of the shop and equipment.

Responsibilities:
- Serve as the lead mechanic and primary liaison between fleet manager, operations, and technicians.
- Perform and oversee diagnostics, repairs, and maintenance on various tractor and heavy equipment.
- Conduct quality control checks on completed work to ensure accuracy.
- Coordinate with operations and technicians to prioritize work orders and ensure timely repairs.
- Support mobile service calls by performing off-site diagnostics and repairs as needed.
- Uphold shop standards for cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Assist with scheduling, parts ordering, and job tracking via computer software.
- Mentor, coach, and train junior and new technicians to build technical knowledge and performance.
- Monitor technician productivity and shop efficiency; lead by example in achieving personal efficiency benchmarks.

Skills and Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience as a diesel or heavy equipment mechanic (tractor-trailer equipment preferred)
- High School Diploma
- Proven experience in a supervisory or lead technician role
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Computer literacy, including familiarity with diagnostic software and repair ticket systems
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record (CDL is a plus)
- Ability to provide your own set of tools
- Self-motivated and dependable with a strong work ethic
- Ability to commute to and work off-site as needed
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and move up to 75 lbs. regularly
- Frequently required to stand, kneel, bend, crawl, or climb into tight spaces
- Manual dexterity for using tools, parts, and mechanical components
- Tolerance for working outdoors in various weather conditions
- Visual and auditory ability to detect mechanical issues and communicate effectively
- Capable of working extended hours during peak service periods or emergency calls
