A Parts Manager needs to perform well under pressure and understand the fluctuating needs for various replacement parts to excel in the role. They’re responsible for keeping the business well-stocked and communicating effectively with various departments both within and outside the organization.
Some day-to-day Parts Manager job duties include:
- Forecasting parts needs and ordering parts to maintain optimal inventory levels
- Monitoring the current parts inventory
- Sourcing and pricing parts to maintain profitability
- Receiving parts, including placing them into inventory and properly accounting for them
- Overseeing work orders
- Converting paper work orders to electronic form
- Assisting in the development and implementation of processes for parts and work orders
- Issuing purchase orders
- Collaborating with maintenance teams to ensure all parts are available for repair jobs
- Submitting and/or monitoring all parts warranty and return claims within the required timeframe to receive maximum credit
- Negotiating and maximizing use of all order discount programs
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications – Experience, Skills, and Knowledge:
- Previous experience in Parts Department operations preferred (Tractor-Trailer experience a plus)
- Previous experience utilizing parts or fleet maintenance management systems preferred, such as:
- AMCS
- Dossier
- Fleet.io
- Ability to use standard desktop load applications such as Microsoft Office and Internet functions
- Ability to speak effectively one-on-one and within a group
- Basic understanding of financial principles relative to Parts Department operations
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to analyze and interpret internal reports
- Works in a standard office environment, including consistently viewing a computer monitor and using keyboard/mouse
- Bilingual a plus (Spanish-speaking)
- Physical requirements include ability to lift up to 75lbs. daily
- Ability to stand for long periods of time (at parts counter)
- Active Driver’s License with good driving record
- Pre-Employment Drug Screen
Job Type: Full-time; Monday to Friday with weekends as needed
Salary: $45,000 – $50,000/year with room for growth (Variable upon experience)
